Castle Donington 30 - 6 Dronfield
The NLD Knockout Plate action for Castle Donington saw them take on NLD/N opponents Dronfield in warm up for this weeks league game.
They made hard work of the fixture though and Dronfield had the first points on the board after only eight minutes with a penalty from Lowery. Not the most auspicious of starts but it served as awake up call for the home team.Immediate hard pressure resulted in a scrum on the Dronfield 5m line, Donington had the put in and drove to the line, whereupon captain, Paul Howells, grounded the ball for the try, he duly converted this to put 7 - 3 up.
Twenty minutes later it was almost a carbon copy event with the exception of Pauls’ boot. This was the end of the scoring in the first half, but not for the game. Dronfield yet again opened the scoring after an eight minute wait with a second penalty from Lowery, this was to be their last contribution to the scoring though.Howells put another penalty over seventeen minutes later. It was back to the pack again as Matt Hall found his way to the try line for the third . The last two minutes of the game saw Piers Goode and Matt Hall score again.
