An intro from our new coach Dave Price

I developed, as a player, through the junior system at Bedford RUFC (now known as Bedford Blues) and represented both Bedfordshire and East Midlands at Youth levels. I left Bedford to join the Marines, where I represented my unit, as well as making an occasional appearance for Devonport Services. On leaving the Marines I moved to Folkestone and was associated with Folkestone RFC, as player, club member, and coach until May 2007. In 1998 I sustained a shoulder injury which facilitated the end of my playing career. I used that as an opportunity to retrain and I completed a BSc in Psychology and Sports Science at Canterbury Christ Church University, this provided me with a grounding in the science based theories behind Coaching as well as Coaching provision and development. On completion of my degree I secured a position as a lecturer at South Kent College, where I worked until we decided, as a family to relocate to the East Midlands.

Having arrived in the area one of my first priorities was to find a rugby club. Castle Donington, whilst not the closest club to my home or the only club I looked at, has welcomed me into the fold since my very first contact with Chris Hazard, making it an easy decision to join. It feels great to be back within a club environment and feeling a part of all that is good about rugby clubs (including the abuse and heckling I received at the AGM). Rugby is a sociable sport played by sociable people, we are all involved in it because it is fun and we enjoy it, let’s not lose sight of that fact. Training is not a chore; it’s just a damn good excuse to spend the evening with your mates. Match day is match day, not match 80 minutes! Everyone has their own little routines they like to go through on a Saturday morning ranging from the bizarre to the mundane. Home or away there is some form of travelling time involved, followed by the pre-match routines, the game itself and the post-match wind down. All before you even get to the beer! If you think that rugby is taking up too much of your time then you are doing it all wrong, it’s the other stuff that’s taking up too much time. I look forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks. Please ensure that I do get the chance to get to know you by attending training, after all, it would be rude not to!

Thanks again for the welcome that I have received from you all so far. I am looking forward to a long, successful and, above all, happy association with Castle Donington RUFC
